Welcome to 4th grade!
About Ms. Smith...
Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Anna Smith and I am thrilled to be your student's teacher and part of the Cornelius Elementary team. I'm originally from Ohio and proud to call myself a Buckeye. I have three wonderful daughters; my oldest daughter recently graduated from Appalachian State University, and my twins are seniors at Hopewell High School.
I'm an advocate of public education. I believe that every child deserves a high quality education that prepares them for the 21st Century. I promise to do my best everyday to ensure that your child receives an education that is tailored to their individual needs while preparing them for 5th grade and beyond. I look forward to getting to know your student and their families!
Sincerely,
Ms. Smith
About Our Classroom...
This year in 4th grade we will be building a community of learners. Your child will emerge from "learning to read" to "reading to learn". In literacy, we will focus on comprehension skills that help your child to analyze and understand fiction and informational text. We will have a high focus on writing, and your student will learn to write with precision, fluidity and creativity. In math, your child will master multiplication skills, fractions, and basic algebraic operations. In science, we will be performing discovery-based, hands-on experimentation to engage and interest your student in the sciences, and in social studies, we will be learning about our communities, economic development and the history of the state of North Carolina. In addition, your student will develop strong skills in technology, innovation and interpersonal communication as the year progresses.
